About Cathelijne van der Lande

Interior Designer & Renovation Lead, based in the Netherlands

For the last ten years, I've built boutique hotels and residential homes across the Netherlands. Boutique hotels through Studio Pistache, which I co-founded. Residential renovations through Norm Studio, my own practice. The names and scales changed; the craft didn't.

I've been arranging spaces since I was a child. I'm a builder, but always from a concept first. I want to understand what something is before deciding what it looks like. I learned to work that way across retail and marketing roles, where I got sharp on project management and creative strategy. When I started working for myself in 2014, I moved that approach into physical spaces. First interior design projects of my own, then Kith & Kin Boutique Apartments and Hotel Pistache, both co-founded.

Studio Pistache

In 2017, my business partner and I opened Hotel Pistache. Other hotels and hospitality founders started coming to us with their own projects. That's how Studio Pistache came to be: a hospitality studio that builds independ boutique hotels from concept to opening. Together, we didn't just do interiors. We built the brand identity, the guest experience, the operational systems, the website. Projects from that studio include Hotel Pistache, Kith & Kin Boutique Apartments, Hotel Bries, Hotel Kobalt, Boutique Hotel Anegang, and Basecamp Amsterdam (formerly The Unbound). In 2023, I stepped out of Studio Pistache to focus fully on Norm Studio. Hospitality taught me how a space needs to work, not just look.

Norm Studio Interiors

In 2021, I founded Norm Studio. I wanted to work on my own, on projects with a clear beginning and end, where I could use everything I'd built: concept, design, project management, all in one place.

Norm Studio is residential. Full renovations from design through realisation. I run the whole arc, not just the design part. What I'm after is interiors that last, that hold up over time and grow with the people living there. Not over-designed, not imposing a look. I listen to my clients and build from what actually fits them.

Over the last few years, more and more of my clients have been expats. That's what led to Renovations for Expats.

Renovations for Expats

My first expat clients came through I am Expat. They found me on their platform, and more kept coming. Every conversation was variations on the same story: people often with demanding jobs, trying to renovate a Dutch house without the language, the network, or a clear sense of how things work here. What they wanted wasn't different from my other clients. They wanted the same outcome as my Dutch clients. What they needed was a different path to get there.

That's why I started Renovations for Expats. It's where I focus everything I've learned at Norm and Pistache on a group that I've seen needs it most. Norm Studio is transitioning into Renovations for Expats.

I work with expats across the Netherlands, with a focus on Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague, Utrecht, Eindhoven, Hilversum, and the surrounding areas. I'm listed on I am Expat and will be a preferred supplier on Locallista.
